This work has come out of our recent national tragedy. We call her Liberty, but she has had another name, the name her artist gave her, after the lost Colossus of Rhodes. She is suprised by pain, but deals with it through work, of cleaning house of all that is unworthy, of cleaning wounds, of cleaning off the dirt and standing forth again, beautiful and indomnitable. Tu ne cede malis sed contra audientor ito: Yield not to misfortune, but advance all the more boldly against it. Waterpencil on clayboard masonite. Copyright 2002 Bonnie JK Sheets. |
